Hi All

If you click on the following link you should be able to access the live survey. (ie if you answer the questions it will be counted as a survey result):

http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB229ZKAVRM34

However I can still make changes to the survey at any time. So before we put the url link on the website if there are any other amendments people want to make just let me know.

I'm afraid I haven't figured out how to use the Liaison Committee group site on the webpage so I don't have Fran's, Lisa's or Bec's email address - Could you pls forward this on to them Gordon?

Judy & Ray Mackenzie Cortona Page

My major concerns about the environmental impact of the mine are:

Our concerns cover many issues covering environmental and physical changes to our dream of a quite life style.
Any visual activities of the mining are not welcome to us as well as noise created by trucks, blasting and drilling.
Road traffic and the condition of the road to Braidwood is also a worry to us.
A major concern is the water usage ÔÇô although Cortona say they will be using water from the old mines, that water arrived there from the water table anyway and wonÔÇÖt it be replaced from the same source?

Jane's Cortona Page

My major concerns about the environmental impact of the mine are:

1. Water. We have a drought and global warming. Water is about to become scarce and precious. Even if there is a positive Hydrology Report now, climate changes. Cortona will likely take underground and creek water, should it not rain. This could ruin us - in real terms.

New Committee List

Hi All,

I have created a list for us to correspond with, I still need to do a few things to it but will do so once I have more time. I will then update you all on the best way to use this, But for now let see how it works.

Note that this is a private group so no one but us see any of this.

Now I have had an email from Alex at the paper wanting to know if we have a report on the meeting. So I'll put it out there if anyone wants to put anything to together.

Now I have got the notes that I took (which I still need to polish and send to you all) So I am happy to do this.

Majors Creek Community Liaison Committee

Welcome to the MCCLC who's purpose is to effectively communicate the concerns, hopes and desires of the Majors Creek regional community to Cortona, so that co-operatively the two parties can, at a minimum maintain, but preferably enhance, the current village ambiance and community spirit.

Community Liaison Committee

After being to the Public Meeting and re-reading the Purpose Clause, I suggest the following change;
To effectively communicate the concerns, hopes and desires of the Majors Creek regional community to Cortona, so that co-operatively the two parties can, at a minimum maintain, but preferably enhance, the current village ambience and community spirit.

15/12 - Carbon farmer waiting for his payoff

MARTIN Royds calls himself a carbon farmer. Twenty years ago the Braidwood cattle producer decided to develop regenerative farming practices, and in 2007 he was voted local carbon cocky of the year.

He says his winning carbon management practices include having 100 per cent groundcover all the time, using controlled grazing to ensure his pastures are never eaten down to the roots, growing trees on his land, and using biological products rather than synthetic fertilisers.

"You can see the difference," Mr Royds said.

Majors Creek over the years

Compiled by Brian Mcdonald

I am presently compiling a record of old Majors Creek photos. I have many from my own collection but feel there is more around. If you have any photos of Majors Creek ,old families, identities etc. I would appreciate if I could have a copy for inclusion in this collection, when maybe it can be published in a book form.
If you can oblige copies can either be forwarded to me at

PO Box 21
Majors Creek NSW 2622

or emailed to [email protected].

Minerals & petroleum titles landholder's rights common questions

How can the community complain about aspects of the mining operation?

If residents believe that the company is not adhering to the conditions of its development consent, they should contact the appropriate authority, such as the EPA or the local Council.

Many of the new mines currently being developed have established community liaison committees which have community representatives as well as representatives of local Councils. These committees meet regularly and residents can contact members of the committee about matters that concern them.

    Impressed

I was impressed with the meeting at Majors Creek on 2 December 2009. I was impressed with both the company and with the depth of the communityÔÇÖs questions. It seems that there can be a good relationship where all will benefit.
